WE CREATE PARTNERSHIPS

Summer programs involved youth

Again this summer, Toronto Baptists put students to work in partnership with the Canada Summer Jobs program. Some of them led day camps across the city. Nine staff, plus volunteers, were part of TBM's 2008 METRO (Mission Experience and Training Opportunity) program, based at Immanuel Baptist Church and directed by Michael Morrison (above, centre, with his co-leaders) who led last summer's ground-breaking program. And some signed up with the new Dramatic Change Youth Theatre program directed by Dennis Hassell and supported by TBM and the Baptist Convention of Ontario and Quebec.

Volunteer teams boosted Toronto ministries this summer

Toronto has become a prime destination for Baptists who want a short-term experience in cross-cultural mission. Toronto Baptist Ministries is happy to foster partnerships with our churches and ministries--such as the one between the landscaping crew from Nashwaaksis Baptist Church in Fredericton, New Brunswick, and Temple Baptist Church (pictured above).

Our Virginia partnerships coordinator, Walter McIntyre, arranged for churches in the US to send these teams of helping hands to Toronto-based ministries:

  • Bon Air Baptist Church in Richmond, VA, spent a week in April assisting Dixon Ministries. More volunteers from Bon Air came in early July, to work on projects at Camp Kwasind and in Toronto.
  • River Road Baptist Church (Richmond) took on projects at Camp Kwasind during the last week of June.
  • Haymarket Baptist Church (Washington DC) has served various Toronto ministries.
  • Southview Baptist Church (Washington DC) sent a team to Bethany Baptist Church, Toronto.
  • Tomahawk Baptist Church (Richmond, VA) assisted Matthew House- Fort Erie.
  • Northside Baptist Church (Mechanicsville, VA) served with Renforth Baptist Church
  • James River Baptist Church (Richmond) helped various Toronto ministries.

Partnership goes both ways. This summer, Bethany Baptists made a return visit to Southview Baptist. Kipling Avenue Baptists spent the third week in July at Mt. Olivet Baptist Church in Ashland, VA. Sigfrido and Phyllis Ortiz of Dufferin Street Baptist Church led a retreat for Hispanic pastors in Virginia.
